The Fun Mouse: Varieties: Caracul
 |
Caracul
Symbol: Ca
Chromosome: 15
Inheritance: Dominant
Description: You can tell if a mouse is going to be Caracul when the whiskers come in at or slightly after birth. Whiskers will be curly. When the fur grows in, it will have a noticeable wave. As a Caracul mouse ages, the fur will greatly straighten out starting at 4 weeks of age. There are 2 visual stages to the Caracul coat. As youth the coat is very curly. As adults Caracul mice will only have a plush like look, with little or no curl at all. Well bred Caracul mice will keep some of their wavy coat thru life.

Breeding: Because Caracul is Dominant, you can get Caracul babies by breeding only one Caracul parent to anything. Mice that have Caracul in their background, yet are not Caracul themselves, will not have Caracul babies. Caracul can show all other coat types as well (Satin Caracul, Angora Caracul (Texel), etc).
